Your aura is the energy field that surrounds your entire body. Everything has its own aura, and we can often feel a person’s aura field when we perceive their “vibration”. Your aura is connected to the 7 energy centers or chakras of the body and consists of 7 different layers. Each of these layers will differ in depth and size depending on the person and where they are in their life. In this article, I have examined aura layers and aura colors for you.

#1 Understand the Seven Aura Layers
There are seven levels of the human aura. Each level is represented by an inner layer which encapsulates the next outer layer. A persons’ physical, mental, and psychological well being affects their aura. Layer by layer, each of these layers radiate outward.
The layers go from the closest location (1) to the farthest away from your body (7), but there’s no specific order to these layers. Each aura has seven chakras, which correspond to the different levels of energy within your body. Each layer of your body is responsible for carrying information through its own particular set of channels or energetic pathways. As each new layer builds up, its vibrational qualities grow stronger as they radiate outward. So, the outermost layer of sound waves has the strongest vibrations.
Your physical wellbeing affects the size and shape of the energy field surrounding you. If you feel healthy and energetic and have a positive outlook on life, then your energy field will be so strong and vibrant. But if you’re sick, tired, and stressed out, then your energies will be low. Each layer helps to create a certain kind of energy. It could be either fluid or structure. They keep everything balanced and harmonious.
Now let’s examine the aura layers together and get to know the 7 layers of your aura closely.
#1.1 The Etheric Layer
The etheric layer surrounds the physical human form. It extends up to two feet out from the surface of the human form. Connects mainly with the first chakra — our internal structure, our bodies’ systems, and the state of our physical well-being.
#1.2 The Emotional Layer
You have another aura layer extending outward beyond your physical form in the shape of an ovoid shaped energy field. Connecting to the second chakras, the mind/body interface layer connects us to our own feeling, emotional, and experiential bodies. It changes according to its present status – whether we’re happy, sad, angry, etc. It also helps store emotions such as anger, frustration, hatred, anxiety, envy, jealousy, etc.
Energy from the second layer is transmitted directly into the first layer, which processes and transmutes it into a form suitable for the physical body. When experiencing physical stress, muscle cramping, and/or an upset stomach, what might cause these symptoms is often due to the etheric (the first) layer being bombarded with emotions from the second aura layer.
#1.3 The Mental Layer
The third layer of the aura is the mental layer. It has an approximate length of 4 to 8 inches. This layer is associated with the third chakra (our conscious awareness), as well as thought, logic, concepts, beliefs, and intelligence. At this stage, we’re thinking rationally and validating our thoughts through evidence. Mental illness and mental issues manifest themselves within this aura.
#1.4 The Astral Bridge Layer
The fourth (or fifth) level of the aura is called the Astral Level. It’s sometimes called the “Bridge” Level because it connects this third (or second) level of the aura to the physical world. It connects to the fourth chakras, which are related to love, well-beings, expansion, and life-balances.
The first three layers of the auric field represent our body’s basic physical structure; they mirror our physical reality. The fourth level represents our spirituality and our connection to the universe. It separates the first three levels of the auric field from the outer three layers.
#1.5 The Etheric Template Layer
The etheric template is the second level of your personal energy field. You can actually see the energetic imprints of your thoughts and emotions. It exists between your physical body and your spirit. It is located directly above the third auric shield. When you think about something, it remains imprinted inside your subconscious mind, creating an energetic impression on the etheric template. The etheric template is also known as your blueprint or genetic memory.
#1.6 The Celestial Layer
The sixth aura layer covers the whole body. A part of it goes from 2 to 3 feet away from the body. It represents the link between the physical and the spiritual minds. Through meditation and devotion, we connect with this layer through prayers and rituals.
It has to do with the sixth chakra , memory, dream consciousness, intuition, trust, honesty, conscious love, and unconditional love. These layers hold our experience of having a connection to things greater than ourselves.
#1.7 The Ketheric Template Layer / Causal Layer
The causal (or ketheric) template is the seventh level of an individual’s auric field. It reflects past experiences and events throughout one’s life, including ones from before birth. It is linked to the seventh chakra, which represents spiritual awakening and enlightenment.
The Ketheric layer is the link between us and God, Creator, Source, or All That Is. It extends up to five feet away from our bodies, depending on our spiritual status.
We have examined all the layers of the aura, now let’s continue with the colors. In this section you will find concise explanations of the colors.
#2 What Do Their Colors Mean?
Your aura color corresponds to one of the seven major chakra centers: roots, sacrum, solar plexus (also known as the belly), heart, thorax, third eye, and head/crest. The aura is associated with the chakras; it is made up of four layers called auric fields.
Being able to tell which color corresponds to each chakra can help you understand what your personal energy field is saying.
#2.1 Red:
At the root chakra, there resides your foundation, including where you came from, your home, and your place in the world. It houses your power to manifest things into your life and your sense of self. It’s located at the bottom of your spine, where your foundations are built. Home, Career, Sexuality, Money, Power, Values, etc. If your aura has red, it basically means that you’re operating from a stable base.
#2.2 Orange:
Orange has been found to be an effective colour for bringing out feelings of empathy and compassion in people. It stimulates the pituitary gland, the part of the brain responsible for the production of hormones related to joy, happiness and contentment.
Your aura color is orange, which means that you’re more likely to be an emotionally heavy sleeper, like someone who likes to cuddle under a blanket when they go to bed at night. You’re also independent but not completely realistic.
#2.3 Yellow:
The colour yellow is associated with your solar plexus (or heart) chakra, which helps you manage stress, feel self-assured and be creative. It’s also associated with the emotion of anger, so if you’re feeling angry, take some time to clear your mind by breathing deeply. Breathing in through your nose fills up your stomach, making us feel full, but when we breathe out through our mouth we release that negative emotion from the inside.
#2.4 Green and Pink:
These colors correspond with your heart chakra. Your heart chakra represents feelings of love for self and for everyone else. It is also the access to God’s Mind and Intuition. People who have these pink green aura colours tend to be compassionate, gentle, and loving.
#2.5 Blue:
Your throat chakras is the color blue. It’s the color of your voice — expressing who you are and communicating with others. If you see blue aura, you’re naturally intuitive and empathic.
#2.6 Purple and Violet:
The aura color purple relates to your third eye chakras, which you might be familiar with if you’ve done any type of spiritual practice. If you feel like you might be psychic, but don’t know where it comes from, it may come from an imaginary place in your mind. You may have some kind of psychic ability, and it could originate from somewhere inside your head.
#2.7 White:
A white aura occurs extremely rarely. Your Crown Chakra—located above your head—vibrates at this particular frequency. It connects you with everything out there, with unity, and with the understanding that you’re just one small part of a big thing.
#2.8 Black:
When aura turns out black, it could mean you’re holding onto negative thoughts and emotions that block the free flowing of positive chi (or life force) throughout your body.
#3 Do Your Auric Colors Shift Over Time?
Your energy color may change depending on your mood and the circumstances surrounding you at any given moment. Your energies change constantly; therefore, the color of your auric field doesn’t remain constant throughout your lifetime. If you’re consistently dominant in one aura colour, you can learn what that particular colour signifies and how your body might benefit from balancing it.
For example, purple people perceive negativity better than other colors, which means they could benefit from setting boundaries so they don’t absorb negative energy. By doing so, they may eventually learn that their auras become less powerful in the purple color over a period of time.
#4 The 7 Layers of Your Aura and Aura Layers Meaning
Your aura is an energetic boundary that wraps around your entire body. There is an energy associated with each individual person. We can sometimes tell if someone is happy or sad, angry or calm just by looking at them and sensing their vibe.
Your auric field consists of seven distinct layers which connect to the seven major chakras. A layer could be deep for one individual and shallow for another; a certain level could seem significant or not depending on whether someone is just starting out or has been working towards this goal for years. An aura can be seen by people who are sensitive to energy fields. It’s usually quite bright in color. When disturbed, the electromagnetic energy emitted by the body can appear weak and dull.
The layers of the auric field pulse outward from the physical form, starting at the surface of the skin and ending at the outermost layer of the energy field. As layers of energy increase their vibrations, they move outward from the heart. With each layer vibrating at increasingly higher frequencies, the seventh layer carries the most powerful energy. Odd numbered (yang) or even numbered (yin) are both associated with different energies, but they’re not opposites. As a result, you won’t always get a clear contrast between them when using techniques that rely solely on these differences. It balances out our energies by helping us stay balanced.
